Gary Ross is the director of the first movie, which introduces us to Katniss Everdeen, a young girl from District 12 who signs up to compete in the Hunger Games in lieu of her sister Prim. Katniss traverses the harsh arena with her fellow tribute Peeta Mellark, making allies and overcoming perilous obstacles. The movie looks with themes of resistance to the tyrannical Capitol, sacrifice, and survival.
