In the movie, Tarzan, whose parents are killed by a leopard, grows up in the African bush with gorillas as his caretakers. As he deals with the difficulties of being different from the gorillas and the advent of explorers like Jane Porter and the evil Clayton, the character goes through a voyage of self-discovery.
