Thor (Chris Hemsworth), the god of thunder and heir to the throne, is set to be anointed king by his father Odin (Anthony Hopkins) in Asgard, one of the Nine Realms, where the movie opens. As a result of Thor's careless behavior, the peace deal with the Frost Giants is broken, and Odin banishes him—along with his formidable hammer Mjolnir—to Earth.
