Forrest Gump's life story is told in a sequence of flashbacks throughout the movie, which is set up like a bus stop. Forrest, in spite of his cerebral limitations, participates in a number of pivotal historical moments and accomplishes amazing achievement. He enlists in the Vietnam War, excels at ping-pong, makes investments in Apple Inc., launches a prosperous shrimp company, and all the while harbors feelings for Jenny, his childhood friend (played by Robin Wright).
