Rocky Balboa is a struggling boxer who works for meager pay as a debt collector in an attempt to break into the big time. The managers of heavyweight champion Apollo Creed want to arrange an exhibition battle between their fighter and a failing boxer, promoting the bout as an opportunity for a "nobody" to become a "someone" when Creed visits Philadelphia. Rocky believes this is his only chance to make it big, but someone forgot to warn him that Creed is expected to win the match with ease.
