Paraplegic Marine Jake Sully chooses to go on a mission on the far-off planet of Pandora after learning that his brother was murdered in a robbery. He discovers there that the avaricious corporate leader Parker Selfridge plans to exterminate the local humanoids known as "Na'vi" so that they can mine their rich woodland for the valuable mineral that is strewn around. Jake acquires information about the Indigenous Race and their culture for the collaborating military unit lead by gung-ho Colonel Quaritch in exchange for the spinal surgery that will fix his legs. At the same time, he tries to infiltrate the Na'vi people by using a "avatar" identity.
