The narrative centers on a young couple named Lena (Emma Watson) and Daniel (Daniel Brühl), who get caught up in Chile's political turmoil. Daniel is kidnapped by the secret police and brought to Colonia Dignidad, a covert cult-like community run by the charismatic and tyrannical Paul Schäfer (played by Michael Nyqvist).
