Idaho, 2016. Charlie, an online writing instructor who is permanently obese and confined to a couch, is deeply wounded by loss and shame and now sees clearly what his true motives are. Additionally, the self-destructive shut-in has plenty of time to reflect on parenting, reconciliation, and the painful flaws of the past while he is confined to his cramped and musty apartment. Because imperfect Charlie wants to talk to people and make new friends more than anything. After all, he hasn't spoken to his irate, teenage daughter Ellie in years due to their estrangement. But whales don't live in the shallows, as everyone knows. Can a lifetime of tears and agonizing mistakes be erased by love and forgiveness?
