Anya Taylor-Joy plays Beth Harmon, a teenage orphan at the center of the narrative. Living in an orphanage, Beth realizes she has a great knack for chess and rises through the ranks of the chess world quite quickly. Her progress from a young prodigy to a grandmaster is explored throughout the series, along with the difficulties and personal concerns she encounters, such as drug addiction.
