Joel, a seasoned survivor, is recruited to smuggle Ellie, a 14-year-old girl, out of a harsh quarantine zone 20 years after modern civilization has been destroyed. What begins as a menial task quickly turns into a terrible and tragic trip as they have to travel throughout the United States together and rely on one another to survive.
