King Schultz, a bounty hunter, finds and purchases Django, a slave, in 1858 because he wants him to locate some men he is seeking for. Django wants to find his wife, Broomhilda, who was also sold separately by his previous owner for trying to flee, after he finds them. If he choose to stay with him and be his partner, Schultz promises to help. They eventually find out that she was given to a Mississippi plantation. They devise a scheme so that the owner will let them into his house and they can find a way, knowing they couldn't just walk in and declare their desire for her.
