When Greta, a young American woman, accepts a position as a nanny in a secluded English village, she learns that the parents are treating their eight-year-old son like a life-sized doll in order to cope with the loss of their real son that occurred twenty years prior. Her biggest nightmare comes true when she disobeys a string of rigorous rules; a sequence of unsettling, unexplainable incidents leads her to assume that the doll is alive.
