A movie about the desperate search for a serial killer—played by Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman—who uses his killings as a form of atonement for the world's ignorance of the Seven Deadly Sins. As the deranged "John Doe" (Kevin Spacey) lectures Detectives Somerset and Mills, one sin at a time, the film moves from the tormented remains of one victim to the next. The first sin is gluttony, and the gloomy, muted tones typical of film noir starkly depict the murderer's dreadful capability.
