The protagonist of the tale is Rapunzel, a young princess with healing abilities and long, golden hair that is magical. Rapunzel, played by Mandy Moore, is abducted as a baby by the evil Mother Gothel (Donna Murphy), who wants to keep the magic for herself. Rapunzel lives her entire life in a tower tucked away in the middle of the forest. Rapunzel, who is unaware of her royal ancestry, longs to leave her tower and visit the floating lanterns that are released on her birthday each year.
