The narrative centers on Amy Cole, who decides to enlist in the military in order to travel and leave her little village behind. She is given the job of guarding Guantanamo Bay, where she unexpectedly becomes friends with Ali Amir, a prisoner who has spent eight years there. The movie explores the difficulties Amy and Ali have in bridging the gap between captor and hostage when they start talking.
